Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed India is committed to dialogue and diplomacy - not war.



On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Closed Session of BRICS Summit held in Russia and spoke about India's dedication to dialogue and diplomacy rather than war.

"Our aim should always be dialogue and diplomacy - not war," he stated at the event. Just as COVID had been defeated collectively, so are new opportunities being created for a safe, strong, prosperous future for generations yet unborn...Similarly, global regulations for cyber security, safe AI systems should also be prioritized for greater global stability.


He stated that the BRICS countries must take an aggressive stance against terrorism and financing of terror.


"Together we must join efforts in combatting terrorism and the financing thereof. Applying two standards on this grave issue cannot be tolerated, therefore proactive steps should be taken against radicalization among youth in our countries," stated he. Work must also continue on developing the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism at the UN.


He emphasised that in an uncertain world, BRICS countries must continue to prioritize people-centred solutions.


At a time when the world faces numerous threats such as wars, conflicts and economic uncertainty - climate change being just one - BRICS meeting took place at an opportune moment to make positive contributions in several fields, notably cyber security and disinformation arising in an age of technology - in this environment it's expected BRICS can play an essential role. Being inclusive platform it should foster collaboration to bring about solutions on various fronts while still remaining people-centred approach which sends a clear message that they do not intend to divide but act for common purpose," stated its founder Xi and


India welcomes new countries into the BRICS family as partner nations, provided all decisions are reached collectively and accord with views expressed by founding members of BRICS. Furthermore, all member and partner nations should adhere to the standards adopted at Johannesburg Summit.


The Prime Minister also advocated for reform of the UN Security Council and other international bodies.


He stated: "We must adopt a timeline-driven approach in reforming global institutions like the UN Security Council, Multilateral Development Banks, and WTO."


He warned: "As we move ahead with BRICS, it is important that it doesn't give the impression of replacing existing global institutions rather than reforming them.
